5 marathons in 5 days on 5 of the Channel Islands

Mark Harris, last year, 2011, completed 7 Marathons in 7 consecutive days in Jersey. The support he received locally was fantastic and he raised over £9,000 for Headway Jersey. This year Mark has decided to set himself another challenge to raise funds and awareness of brain injury across the Channel Islands. He has made the decision to run 5 marathons on the 5 Channel Islands in 5 consecutive days. In Marks own words - “This is going to be a difficult challenge, both mentally and physically, as it will involve a route I have never run and on the smaller Islands I will need to run many laps to complete the distance. The funds I can raise through my challenge will make a great difference and I’m really looking forward to taking on this challenge across the Channel Islands”

The Challenge

The challenge starts on Thursday 23rd August by running the marathon distance on Alderney and then on Friday 24th complete the same distance on Sark. On Saturday 25th Mark will complete the marathon distance on the smallest of all the Channel Islands, Herm before competing in the official Guernsey Marathon on Sunday 26th and returning for his final marathon in Jersey on the Bank Holiday Monday 27th August. Each day Mark has committed to run 42.195 kilometers (26 miles and 385 yards), which means that over the 5 days he will cover a distance of 211 kilometres (132 miles).

By completing the 5 marathon challenge, Mark hopes he can raise much needed funds for Headway Jersey. In the past 10 years he has seen the number of members helped by Headway grow from 6 to over 150 and the funding needed increase dramatically. It currently costs £250,000 a year to provide services and support to people in Jersey affected by brain injury.
How to Donate
